Chuck SilcoxCouncilman, Charles "Chuck" Silcox
1943 - 2008

The City of Fort Worth and certainly The CCNA has lost a great Councilman this past month with the death of Chuck Silcox. Mr. Silcox has been a strong and invaluable supporter of our association over the years he has been our representative. Mr. Silcox missed only 2 of our quarterly meetings over 9 years. Mr. Silcox has been an advocate for us on issues from road repair and maintenance , fought hard for the funding for us to widen and improve Chapel Creek Blvd. from development issues, to water improvement infrastructure needs and also, in promoting the need for regulation of urban gas drilling to protect neighborhoods. Mr. Silcox was always fighting for us.

Personally, I have lost a great mentor and advisor who guided me as I have tried to serve our neighborhood and community. When I called Chuck about gas drilling noise in the middle of the night in 2005 he came right out at 12:00 midnight . Chuck immediately started efforts to convene a new Task Force that year to make changes. I was more than honored when he appointed me and gave me full confidence to the 2005 Task Force and again this year in 2008. Our last conversation before his battle against cancer was " We need to meet this week and discuss what you need me to fight for our neighborhoods on this gas issue " that's the way Chuck was a fighter for his neighborhoods . If he thought it was right and told you he would support you , you could take it to the bank. I will personally miss his advise and consult. I remember the minister's final words to those at his funeral. He asked all of us to take a pledge, "I will do my part to make Fort Worth a better City like Chuck did." I certainly will heed that request, and hope all citizens of Fort Worth will do the same.
